Whatever type of coaching you provide, you'll surely find the following tips very useful. They'll help you become better on what you do and they'll help you provide better service to your clients.
1. Build relationship with your clients before you start coaching them. Wouldn't it be too awkward to work with people that you are not comfortable with? Before you get started with your coaching programs, I recommend that you do something to break that thick wall that separates you and your clients. You can have a more laid back conversation with them (don't talk about the details of the coaching program yet) and talk about the things that you share in common. It is important that you get these people to like you and build rapport with them as this can have a direct impact on your success or failure in this endeavor.
2. Active listening. Your clients will most likely to feel happy working with you if they know that you value their thoughts and ideas.
When its time for these people to do the talking, make sure that you keep your mouth shut and practice active listening. This can work two ways; you can make your clients happy and at the same time, you'll be able to know these people inside out.3. Use relevant experiences and personal stories as example. Your clients will surely want to know if you have been there and done that. Tell them the time when you were in their position and clueless about things. Then, tell them how you have succeeded in your chosen niche. This will not only make your coaching programs more interesting and more engaging, this can also help you motivate your clients to try their hardest to reach their goals.
4. Don't stop learning. You'll surely become a better coach if you exert conscious effort to increase your knowledge in your chosen niche. The more new information you obtain, the higher your chances of giving your clients exactly what they need to succeed in their endeavors. You can increase your knowledge by reading relevant sites and printed materials. It would also help if you attend relevant seminars and if you work closely with other industry leaders.
5. Learn how to deliver negative feedback. As a coach, it is very important that you know how to effectively deliver negative feedback without hurting the feelings of your trainees. I recommend that you focus on the behavior or the performance and not the person himself and try not to use negative terms as much as possible.
